During last year's "dictionary kareoke" mini-fad (songs sung by those
online dictionaries that have computerized voices pronouncing the words),
WFMU's Irwin Chusid played a version of this song done in that style. The
end, with the dad's voice going "Boo hoo. Boo hoo hoo. Boo hoo, boo hoo.
Boo hoo." for ages, is one of the funniest things I've heard in ages.
And yeah, "Pick a Bale of Cotton" is an old folk-blues standard. I have a
great version by Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry recorded at the old Golden
Vanity back around 1960.
