Ok Since I already broke my 2 - 3 year lurking spell with the last post
I might as well keep going.

First 45 - Sweet - Little Willy

First album I talked my mother into getting through Columbia house: Don
McLean - American Pie

First album I bought with my own money: Wings - Band on the Run

This was at the age of 15 in 1974,
Didn't know Paul was a member of the Beatles until after I bought it.
In fact prior to that my musical exposure mainly came from AM radio.
This was a life changing experience though I quickly dug into the Beatles
catalogue.

I kind of strayed towards Heavy Rock during the rest of my high school years
due to the influence of the guitar player in my band, Oh yeah forgot to
mention the biggest influence that the Wings album had on me was to start
learning bass and joining a rock band.
Yes it was all downhill from there:-)

Does the new music that I purchase ever make that impression on me?

I would say that it has happened twice like that since.
After I got married, saving for a house and such I really started downsizing
my record buying.
In fact by the early 90's I had pretty much stopped looking for new music.
This coupled with a flood to our house in which I lost most of my vinyl kind
of made me lose interest.

Then one day my sister leant me a tape by a new band, the Gladhands - La Di
Da
Wow! That started me back into music again.
Sometime after that I was contacted by an old college buddy how also had a
great passion for insanely great pop and he turned me on to The Posies -
Dear 23, another landmark CD for me.

These albums actually came close to that first album I ever bought
experience.
Since then I have been back into music and playing in bands again.
The power of pop!

Ok back to lurking for another 2-3 years :-)

PS - Someone (Craig?)mentioned a kids album with the song "seven miles a
second"
I remember having this, I think all the songs were either about space or
science.
I do not think this is the same one that a link was posted for. If I
remember correctly the cover had a spaceship on it, I think it was my
younger sisters album, but my mom may still have this in her collection and
I will check.
