"The Ballad of El Kabong"/ "Ooch, Ooch, Ouch" by Gil Mack and the
Cartoon Cowboys. The theme song to Quick Draw McGraw's Zorro take-off.
Is it any wonder I wound up in the comic book biz? I still have the 45,
bought at a very short-lived record store in Moraga CA in 1960. But my
dad and brother were there, so it may not have been "my own money"--- I
was only 4 at the time.
First with my own money was "Happy Together" on White Whale by the
Turtles. At the same time, or pretty close to it, I bought a 45 for my
sister Dodie: The Four Seasons "(Gee, I Dig You,) Dodie". Don't remember
what the A side was.
First album was probably a cassette of Santana's "Abraxas" or Moody
Blues' "On the Threshhold of a Dream"---
