I got my first LP in 1958.

It was the 1st album by THE EVERLY BROTHERS on Cadence Records.

I'll never forget the day I got it. My dad took me down to the WHAM
studios in

Rochester, NY where the station had the EVERLYS show up in person for a
few hours

to meet fans and sign albums they were auctioning off that day. I
remember we stood

and watched people bid up to $5 and $6 to get an album. My dad knew that
I really

wanted one. I didn't say anything to him, but he could tell. I could
also see that the DJ

who was hosting the event was getting down to the last 2 LPS they were
going to auction

off and inside I was getting worried that we were probably were not
going to be getting

one. But my dad's had a strategy that paid off. Then when mostly
everyone who had bid

higher than store prices had gotten an LP, my dad then stepped in on the
2nd last LP to be

auctioned off, and snagged it for a mere $3.00.

Maybe the DJ just wanted to end it and go home, but it didn't matter to
me. I got to go up

to the front to get my album, meet and shake hands with THE EVERLYS, and
go home

with a signed copy of their 1st LP.

And an elated 8-year old went home and played that album every morning
before going to

school for 3 weeks straight! When I think back, I'm sure it's where I
learned how to sing

and harmonize.
