Since some of the suggestions were quite commercial ie:association,
mamas/papas, I'm surprised nobody even mentioned Bacharach, except
that it may be too obvious to suggest. Here's one of my favorite
commercial soft-pop ventures that might have gotten away from some of
you soft pop fans....
"What the World Needs Now" Stan Getz Plays Bacharach and David - 1967
I still listen to the lp of this I stole from my parents nearly every
week. Amazon says it's available on cd; I can't speak to the song
quality.
Francis Albert Sinatra / Antonio Carlos Jobim is another favorite.
The reissue of this is one of the most spectacular sounding things my
stereo has ever experienced
