I'm still recovering from the second half of my Saturday night -- seeing The
Fleshtones supported by The Cynics -- The Cynics have the moves, though
their songs aren't always there -- The Fleshtones are just one of the few
undeniable automatic pleasures in live music. Laying down a pumping groove,
Peter Zaremba and Keith Streng just have a blast up on stage and it's
contagious.

As for the Frisbie show, it was one of the best of the many I've attended
over the past 4 years or so -- the band quickly gave energy the crowd, who
took that energy, increased it many times over and sent it back to the band,
where it filled the room. Due to the circumstances that led to the new
record, there was tons of emotion on the stage, channeled into a celebration
of talented colleague (and Zack was in the audience), and more importantly,
a friend. Though each had a distinct mood, the Frisbie show, along with the
Love and Michael Carpenter shows I saw a couple of weeks ago, really
reaffirmed the special joy that you can get at a show -- particularly when
the songs are rooted in something fragile, difficult, beautiful and real.
