funny how that works out, isn't it?
as for billy joel, since he came up, i can say
unequivocally that he saved my life on more than one
occasion while driving 40-hour stints cross-country in
my crazy youth. Falling asleep at the wheel in the
middle of the Utah desert at 3 a.m., you say? why,
just bust out Glass Houses or 52nd Street and start
singing along, and you'll be catching your second wind
in no time. In fact, by the time you get to belting
out "UNTIL the NIGHT! UNTIL the NIGHT!" at the
absolute toppermost of your register, in an absolute
hysteria of 70s saxophone cheese and bursting broadway
bloodvessels, you'll need to pull over at the next
Sinclair just to catch your breath and find some kind
of soothing chocolate sedative.
Note: this'll only work if you're alone in the car.
Second note: Elton John also works ("Grey Seal"), as
does Heart ("Magic Man").
and Billy is always ripped off. I hear him all over,
and I hear the Beatles in him all the time (did Macca
have a hand in "don't ask me why?" somehow? maybe just
in a celestial fashion). Someone swiped that piano
frenzy in "All for Lenya" - was it Toto in "hold the
line"?
Billy Joel's alright with me,
