Congratulations to the Audities list for providing yet another chance to
dis bands and songs that other people here happen to enjoy.
Somebody had to deliver pop to the masses in the early/mid70s, and if it
wasn't for Afternoon Delight, Seasons in the Sun, Sky High, Moonlight
Feels Right, Dancing in the Moonlight (again with the moonlight?), Rock
Me Gently, Beach Baby, Just Remember I Love You, Sooner or Later and a
bunch of other GREAT CHEESY TOP 10 (or so) singles, a lot of us and a lot
of our current pop heroes would have less pop history to draw our pop
sensibilities from, myself included. Like 'em or not, a lot of these
songs are textbook examples of pop composition / arrangement.
Plus, what singles would be left behind? Afternoon Delight knocked Diana
Ross' Love Hangover from the top spot. Seasons in the Sun prevented
Barbra Streisand's The Way We Were from retaking #1. I'd much rather
have pop stuff in there than MOR tripe. (There I go dissing somebody
else's faves. Contagious, I guess.)
Regardless, this is some of my favorite stuff and played a large part in
my musical development. So perhaps a little bit of respect is in order.
Try "I don't like" rather than "this song sucks and would make anybody in
their right mind want to kill people".
