I joined so I could feel superior, but I've stuck around for the celebrity impersonation posts and off-list harassment!

But seriously, Stewart, you're attributing to me far more hubris than I actually have if you think I feel superior to smart, well-rounded music fans like Mike Bennett, Anna Borg, Steve Durben, Adam Marsland, or yourself. It's writing and recommendations from folks like these that make the "up with music!" vibe worth enduring.

And I'll proffer a recommendation of my own: if you liked Whiskeytown, or, like me, liked the idea of Whiskeytown more than the actuality, Glossary's new one, HOW WE HANDLE ON MIDNIGHTS, ought to be right up your alley. Rootsy, sometimes wistful, sometimes resigned, atmospheric, and often kinetic, it's one of the most affecting records I've heard in 2003. As I said to Melissa yesterday, "It's like Whiskeytown, except it's actually good." They're from nearby Murfreesboro, TN, and I hope to remedy years of missing their shows when I see them open Nadine tonight at the Slow Bar.

And everyone's coming here on Saturday for the final Superdrag show, right?

later,

Miles
