Well, I'll tell you who is NOT over-rated. Coldplay.

Had the most esteemed pleasure of seeing them on Friday night at Red Rocks
here in Colorado, one of the most beautiful places to experience a musical
act on the way up, way down, or at the top of their peak.

For Coldplay, it's definitely the later. I have no idea how many shows I've
seen in my life. Not a clue, but it's gotta be pushing 1,000. This was one
of the most special shows, ever.

First, it was downpouring a brutal rain the entire time, and as a backdrop
to the cold Colorado rain, it was the 20th anniversary to the date of U2's
famous live concert there(which became their break-through live record in
'84). Irrelevant to the experience, but kinda cool to find out about at the
end of the show.

From moment ONE, the band was full throttle with passion, emotion and
meticulous control and understanding of all their material in a live settin.
The intensity did not let, neither did the rain. But as the rain poured off
my hat, I kept turning around looking the crowd around me and it was quite
clear, we could have stayed well beyond the just-under two hours they played
and we all were sharing a special experience.

Goofy as it may seem(and, trust me, no one was more surprised by me by this
concert---I was dragged to it as I hate any concert w/ more than 1,000
people, generally---- as I was a bit underwhelmed by "Parachutes" and,
while, I think the new album is brilliant, I'm jaded industry-type and
severe-weathered music fan), this was everything and more. While inspired
by the best of Radiohead and U2, no doubt, Coldplay are finding their own
musical voice, as embodied by not only the entire concert, but a first
listen of a new song that was just stunning.

Man, I'm not into lights 'n lasers, but the understated yet highly effective
use of their light show was perfect, too----. Especially, when at one
point, a layer of laser light covered the crowd(surrounded by the most
picturesque outdoor setting around)....and inside the light, clouds formed
and the rain was breaking thru the light to incredible effect. Then the
clouds broke and the sun came through(not in real life, it kept
raining....just the pictoral effect).

Consider me a life-long fan and, despite the massive OVERplay of so many
songs on the radio, they B the real deal, imho.

Peace,
Bruce @ Not Lame
