Just as the rain let up yesterday, my wife and I headed to downtown Baltimore to see IKE open the Mixfest music festival. It was supposed to start at 6:30 pm, but I ran into Cliff Hillis and Dave Anthony and they told me they were on hold as the power was out. Fortunately, the weather was good, the crowd was peaceful, and the beer was cold, so we didn't mind waiting until 8:25, when IKE finally began with a rockin' version of Welcome Home. They only played a 20 minute set, but it was very cool to see 'em on a big stage with a large and attentive audience. Other songs they played were Katy Cry, Dandelion, Revenge, and the radio hit Deathbed (too bad they didn't have time for my Rickshaw request).

IKE was followed by Rachel Farris and Chantal Kreviazuk, two female singers I've never heard of, but both were appealing in very different ways and were appreciated by the all ages crowd. Farris has a thin voice, but a decent stage presence and an adequate band. She was introduced by Lisa Marie Presley, but I missed her appearance when I stepped out for a beer. Kreviazuk performed solo with a keyboard, and seemed the more talented of the two, with a stronger voice. I'd like to know whether anyone has heard her recordings. We left before Sixpence None the Richer and O.A.R., the latter of which had a very sizable following at the show.

All in all, a fun concert - hopefully this venue will be the site of future (free) gigs in Baltimore.

Be seeing you,
Bill
