hey all:

I know this is old news, but I did finally get a hold
of the scooters cd "peepshow" which was prior to 02's
"can see your house from here," and i have a few
questions.

From the "In Love With a Voice" files: I hear two
singers, and three are listed with no "lead" and
"backing" designations; Chris Kelly, Anthony Carey,
and Robert Molcher (the rooney boys only sing as part
of the chorus, it appears). The question, however, is
which one am I in love with? He's the one who leads
on "paperback," whichever else he sings...a perfect
scratchy, balls out, rock n roll approach, a kind of
almost-hoarse timbre that i find particularly
affecting. Sigh. How the hell old is this guy, like
20? And who was it that said that public masterbation
was unsavory? Isn't that what we're doing here in the
first place.

My other concern is the unlisted Luka Bloom track
after "rocky raccoon" on "peepshow," which apparently
is called "keeper of the flame," or some such. This
baby's been on heavy rotation in my car - thank god I
have a cd player so i don't have to waste precious
listenin' time rewinding every 3 minutes. (in no small
way is this due to the abovementioned unnamed
singer's joyful "so shed your skin and let's get
started!" harmony in the final chorus) This time the
question is: I had a couple of Luka Bloom tapes in
the early 90s, "riverside" and "acoustic moterbike"
which i liked in an early 90s kind of way: quirky, but
a little irritating lyrically and , and ultimately
sort of throwaway. I should have known better from the
way my soul latched on to "Over the Moon" , but I find
myself now reconsidering my dismissal of this guy as a
songwriter. What do you all know about what he's been
doing in the last 10 years? C'mon, spill it - I need
to know if this is one of those bolt o blue songs that
mediocre songwriters sometimes get blessed with, or if
his songwriting is consistently going to be able to
make me dementedly hit repeat like a rat going for the
pleasure-center-stimulus bar?

thankee,

-kelly

np: scooters, jeez.
