Hey all,
I thought I would mention this in case there are some Inspiral Carpets fans
out there.
The late 80s/early 90s nostalgia kick in the UK continues
with an Inspiral Carpets comp on Mute records called Cool As.
It consists of a best of disc, a rarities disc and best of all a dvd of 18
videos,7 live clips from a recent performance and a recent interview. The
dvd is worth the price alone.
For those not familiar with them,the band was one of the better offerings
from the ecstacy soaked Manchester baggy scene that nurtured such NME/Melody
Maker flavors of the day as the Happy Mondays,Flowered Up,Mock Turtles (also
recently revived),Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine,Charlatans,etc.
I don't know that all the mentioned bands originated in Manchester but they
certainly were part of that scene.
Anyway,Inspirals music was a fun trippy sound highlighted by a cheesy
fun-house organ not unlike an updated version of ? and the Mysterians. The
rarities disc even offers a cover of ? and the Mysterians' wonderful 96
Tears.

np Sekiden-Love Songs For Robots
I picked this up from this Aussie band tonight when they opened for the
Salteens. Both bands were great and for anyone near Toronto,they both will
be playing N by NE tomorrow at the famous El Mocambo.
The music of Sekiden reminds me of OKGo with a little Sloan and Sugar thrown
into the mix. I am on my 4th spin.
