How was the SF show?

Unlike Morley, I was not amazed by the show. I thought the band was tight,
and the orchestra was a great touch, but Arthur just didn't nail it. I saw
the Spaceland show last year, and heard a recording of the Sheffield show from
earlier this year, so I know Arthur has a lot of fire in his performance. But
I didn't see any of that at the Royce Hall show Friday.

I too was at the LA Royce Hall show, and although the band was in fine form...Arthur Lee was not. I was cringing through most of it, and felt sad for Arthur. He was singing off key throughout, and just didn't have the power in his voice that he normally does. His timing and tambourine hits were out of sinc with the rest of the band too. I saw him twice last year (the Spaceland and Knitting Factory shows)and he was amazing both times, sounding like he just stepped out of the studio after recording Forever Changes. Hopefully he just had a bad night and will be better for the remaining shows.

NP: "Lose Control" by Cloud Eleven - ha ha! Sorry David, I couldn't resist!

By the way, Michael Carpenter did a great job of covering Take Control, and his recorded version is equally great. I think it will be on his next covers album coming out next year, but is available now on his tour CD that he's selling at his shows. Thanks again Michael for doing me the honor! RG
