I've always been a big Fab Poos fan as well. I saw
them at the Punch & Judy Theater in Gross Point, MI, a
tony suburb of Detroit (where The Rocky Horror Picture
Show used to show midnights), at another of those
bargain-priced shows -- I think it was $1.98 to get
in. We had front row seats (!) and the Poodles didn't
disappoint. They were a tight, Kinks-y live band, very
aware of the humor they were projecting, but when they
got into "Mirror Star" or something else more serious,
they dropped all nerdy pretense and simply rocked.
Violinist Bobby Valentino (dead ringer for Clark
Gable) later played with Holly Beth Vincent; I hadn't
heard about DeMeur. I'd also like to know how that
Ronnie & the Rex album is. Epic threw a party for them
afterward and it was easy enough for us to get
backstage, meet the band (all nice guys) and eat big
pieces of pink cake provided by the label.

At that same venue I also saw such performers as the
Undertones, the Romantics, Tim Curry. Around the same
time in the Detroit area, the Motor City Roller Rink
also briefly scheduled a jaw-dropping assortment of
acts such as Devo, the Jam, PIL, the Pretenders ... I
don't recall any of these being bad shows.
