I'd heard a few years ago from a seemingly competent A/V salesperson
that Sony portables have seriously declined in quality over the past
decade, thanks to cost cutting on the materials side and using
extra-cheap labor (Cambodia, I think?). Grain of salt, as with all such
comments, but in any case, this led me to buy the first of several
Panasonic CD portables. I don't use it daily as you would be, but I've
certainly logged a few hundred hours on this unit in the past few years
with nary a problem.
So there's another two cents.
