Why don't you A) buy the 3 year insurance, so any time it breaks,
they give
you a new one, and B) buy 2 of them, so you always have one working.
Well, I do buy the insurance. If they just "gave" me a new one I
wouldn't be asking. As you probably know with Best Buy you have to a)
call them and request a replacement mailing label and then wait for
it in the mail, b) box up your merchandise with this label and send
it to them, c) then wait for them to send you the voucher in the mail
and then d) you can go pick up your new product. It's not a HUGE
thing to go through this every time but with turn around time I'm
getting close to spending as much time dicking around with returns as
I am having a working player.
I could buy 2, but I thought perhaps there might be a brand that
someone had good luck with so I could avoid the above completely. I
should say, that I know these players probably are know to have short
life spans but the Sony's I buy have the exact SAME malfunction every
time. This leads me to assume they may be the "Ford Pintos" of CD
Walkmans. However, maybe it is wishful thinking on my part to hope
for a "Cadillac" version of these players.

Steve,
try goin to Circuit City and be sure to take out an extended
warranty. I
went through at least a half dozen players. they kept replacing
them , no
charge.
Hey Tim, that just may be the ticket. I hope they do straight up
exchanges but even if they don't I can at least try another brand.
best, Steve D
