What exactly dies in the Sony?

The first to go is the headphones (it only plays out of one speaker).
This is shortly followed by (the prior two times, but not this
time....yet) the volume control going out. On two different players
it suddenly was only able to turn up to "3". Which is either a weird
design flaw or it is my bad karma and the gods have a very cruel
sense of humor. For a few reasons, I'm clinging to the flawed design
explanation. ; )

If only my cd player's "3" equaled a Spinal Tap "11" then all would
be just fine....
