Subject Fabulous Poodles -> Ronnie and the Rex?

I was quite pleased to finally find a copy of the 1995 Sequal Records
Fabulous Poodles CD compilation at my local record store...I've been looking
for this one for a while...

Their stuff still holds up. In fact, I'd forgotten how much I liked them.
Surely one of the greatest artifacts of the New Wave era.
I never quite understood why they didn't make greater inroads. Perhaps
their stuff was too cheeky for US tastes. At any rate, the compilation
is first rate, with tracks from all three of their albums, plus some "rare" non-LP
tracks (which are among the best!)

And, thankfully, no "tit photographer blues". Which means I can play it in the
car with my daughter. :-) I'm surprised they didn't put it on for the fans though.

Anyway, I've wondered for some time why lead singer and writer Tony de Meur just
fell off the earth after the Poodles broke up. Well, I guess he didn't. He just
reinvented himself as Ronnie Golden, a name which means absolutely nothing to us Yanks,
but who is, apparently, a name comic in the UK.

Well, anyway, he didn't completely give up on music, and now I see that he released
(in 2001) a new album: Ronnie and the Rex "The Return of the Fabulous Poodles".

The question: Is this album any good. They describe themselves as something of a party/
covers band, which doesn't really match how I'd describe the Fabulous Poodles. But
whatever...

Comments?
