My guess is that someone used the first generation session tape. On my
original copy of "Introducing the Sonics" on Jerdan it fades out too. 

From what (little) I have read the studio they recorded was in someones
basement and only had basic 2-track equipment. They recorded everything in
one take with the amps at full blast, no overdubs.  BTW its the same Tacoma
WA studio the Ventures used earlier for "Walk, Dont Run" - which kicked off
the whole instrumental band craze of the early 60's. 

I have "Strychnine" in stereo on one of Rhino's "Nuggets" LP's from the mid
80's.
