I never used to either until I started seeing video directors and
cinematographers taking the same styles, and even special effects, and
pumping them up onto the big screen. Of course, the opposite has happened in
more cases (gee, how many more retro Tarantino diner scenes do we need on
MuchMusic?)
Even Oliver Stone has lost his sense of direction thinking that pastiches of
video culture magnified to 70mm is a good thing. Think again....

"You Might Think"....which was part of the cutting edge of the video
technology at the time....the guys that did the green screen and
over-exaggerated collision of disparate visual effects were also
experimenting with Yes ("Leave It", "Change"), Honeymoon Suite ("Feel It
Again") and others. It can be argued that this rough-shod work led to the
more seamless innovations in CGI.
