I regularly drag out the first 2 Lofgren solo albums [and some early Grin
stuff] and am always knocked out by them. Listening to them again, right
now, I feel curiously compelled to see what other listers think.
Dunno whether they really qualify as P***rpop, but they meet lots of the
general criteria - catchy and abundant hooks, memorable and hummable
melodies, concise clever songs, great song dynamics et c.plus a really
original, clever, but unindulgent lead guitar style for which, say, people
like Brian May are lauded. And all the songs on the first 2 solo albums are
really strong - no filler, throwaways et c yet they never seem to be
mentioned as 'great' albums, which imho, they obviously are. I know Lofgren
'lost it' after that and as far as I know his later stuff is just more of
the same but not so inspired, but this seems to have seriously overshadowed
the quality of the early stuff. Not to mention the trampoline....
No big deal, and forgive me if is this common knowledge amongst almost
everyone who might be reading this - but what the hell, just thought I'd
mention it.
