"Headfirst Into Everything" appears to be the last album they released (on
Nettwerk 1998). They toured throughout 1998. All the press seems to have
stopped by around May of that year. Then there was an appearance in
Vancouver at a music conference in May 1999 where the line-up had changed:
"Mystery Machine headlined at the Brickyard. Band members are from the Lower
Mainland and have been around, on the edge, for quite some time. Mystery
Machine renders a driving, chaotic sound into a fluid melodic ride through
time. Quality stuff. They plan to record at Mushroom Studios with Darryl
Neudorf soon. We'll keep you posted. Luke Rogalsky (guitar/vocals); Shane
Ward (bass); Josh Pratt (guitar); Dean Young (guitar) and Jordan Pratt
(drums)."
The recording with Neudorf doesn't seem to have materialized. [Those who
followed the sensational trial of Neudorf and Sarah McLachlan will know that
Neudorf was tied up for the better part of 2 years in a copyright
infringement suit with the diva between 2000/2001.]
The next info on Mystery Machine appeared in the online zine Kick In The
Head (http://www.kickinthehead.com/profile.cfm?ID=20011208203104)in February
2001...but the info on the band was dated 2000 and the line-up had changed
again:
"Added third guitar player in 1998 and keyboard player in 2000. Have played
shows with anyone from Pearl Jam to Moby to Ozzy Osbourne to Polvo to
Firehose to Sebadoh. The band lives in Vancouver and continues to write and
record new material.
Members & Instruments: Bean-guitar, Shane-bass, Luke-guitar/vocals,
Dean-guitar/vocals, Mario-drums, Cozy Pines-keys"
I must assume that the band is no more because main-man Luke Rogslsky now
fronts recording act Western Magnetics.
This also from Kick In The Head.com:
"Western Magnetics is the home based recording project of Luke Rogalsky,
realized through a combination of analog synthesizers, cheap drum machines,
guitar, traditional acoustic instruments and pirated classical music.
www.mp3.com/westernmagnetics ."
Contact: Luke Rogalsky at westernmagnetics.ca
BTW - Rogalsky was also in a side project called JOANIE LOVES CHACHI in 1994
during his Mystery Machine tenure.

Following their debut album, "How High The Moon" on Capitol/Nettwerk in
1988, the band floundered and leader Scott Acomba eventually left in 1989.
He was replaced by keyboardist Mark Henning and they changed their name to
Grin Factory by the end of that year. Bassist Jordy Birch switched to vocals
and relinquished bass duties to new addition Dave Hadley. They became PURE
in 1990.
The new incarnation was signed to Warner/Reprise in 1991.
Scott Acomba went underground, but has recently re-emerged with his new
project, Satsuma (also featuring Jennifer Playford on keyboards; and Mike
Rivet on drums). Satsuma's debut CD, 'Hello My Name Is', was released in
early 1999. Produced by Scott Acomba and former After All member Todd Simko,
the disc contains contributions from members of such notable Vancouver
groups as the Matthew Good Band, Knock-Down-Ginger, and Pure.
Satsuma did a triple bill with my label act Soap Opera and Audities faves
The Rosenbergs in 2001. In all honesty, Satsuma were the most boring,
pretentious and contrite shoe gazing act I've had the misfortune of seeing
in a very long time. Acomba himself seemed quite engaging, but the act was
playing this '60s pseudo garage-meets-lounge schtick complete with silver
and gold lame jumpsuits, Manchester hair cuts (except Jennifer Playford who
was doing here best Barbarella beehive). And the rest of the act looked like
cast-offs from the final version of the band ABC (circa "Who Wants To Be A
Zillonaire").
