There were 3 Stax box sets. The 3rd one contained 10 CDs (29 CDs in total
between the 3 box sets). While the first box was almost like a "Stax
Greatest Hits," the 2nd and 3rd had more than their fair share of excellent
singles. Most should have been hits, but by that point, Stax was in such
disarray (although they had a distribution with Atlantic), many of their new
records weren't getting much airplay or sales.
The books that come with the 3 boxes are excellent 25,000+ word essays
written by Stax expert Rob Bowman. They devote most of the editorial space
to the artists and songs. He also has a book out about the Stax label that
concentrates more on the business end. Fascinating reading.
Speaking of Stax, this week is the grand opening of the Stax Museum in
Memphis. There were 3 concerts to commemorate the occasion with artists
like Booker T & the MGs, Isaac Hayes, Carla Thomas, William Bell, and the
MarKeys playing. Also on the bill was Big Star. Can't wait for my next
trip to Memphis to go check out the museum.
Chris
P.S. I agree that the new Ziggy DVD is great. Fun commentary as well by
director D.A. Pennebaker. The CD reissue sounds equally as good.

seeing a box set of all the Stax singles? Is it still available? You can

Gabe!
1)Ronson played on all of Bowie's records from The Man Who Sold The World to
Pin Ups/Alladin Sane
2)The new Ziggy dvd is brilliant. Looks and sounds incredible.
3)There were 2 Stax boxed sets (maybe 3) and I believe they are still
available. of course the first box is the best but the second one has lots
of gems on it too.
