Blame it on the record store! A few months ago they were playing a JOHN
CALE cd, I think the Guts collection, and it started an itch.
Since then I've since liberated the John Cale bio(written w/Victor
Bokris!) "What's Welsh For Zen" from the library. Brilliant stuff
w/layout and artwork from Dave "Sandman" McKean.
I also picked up The Island Years double cd which features all three
albums Cale recorded for Island (fear, slow dazzle, helen of troy) and
holy moly this is good stuff. Holy Velvets, Talking Heads, Roxy/Eno
beautiful heartwrenching ballads, krazy geetar and twisted logic. Wunderbar.
Needless to say, I encourage anyone to delve into this fella's past. As
a bud from a local bookstore said upon my telling him about my newfound
interest, "About time!"
"Paris 1919" is next and then I'll move onto next...ahem...interest.
regards, Judith
