It's good to revisit songs and uncover new layers...
Go back to your IPO #5 CD and give a listen to "Aeroplane" by Receiver.
What revisiting this song uncovered for me, this time round:
1) Great guitar solo production...double tracking at just the right time,
very Nielsen-esque, very "My Sharona".
2) Tremendous, urgent-sounding lead vocals from Don, again with great use of
double-tracking and echo. Good contrast with the middle 8's reflective
delivery by Ken
3) John Borack is a monster drummer. Economical, too.
4) The Bass playing is from another forkin' universe. Tone is killer too.
Good Job Kerry! Good example of the bass being a STRONG counter melody,
without getting in the way of the vocals.
5) Overall production is astounding.
I mean, I knew all these things before revisiting, but sometimes a little
reminder helps underscore.
(I have hopes of making this my weekly installation on Audities: picking a
"non-new" song and revisiting it, and seeing what my ear picks out this time
around...Next up, "Jackie Blue" by Ozark mt Daredevils - the *real* OMD).
