When I was in high school I had a book that reviewed/covered every Beatle
recording-- singles, albums (Brit versions, natch)-- and the fist chunk of
70s solo output.  I'll never forget the comment that began the section on
Rubber Soul:

"We are now entering the phase where critical evaluation is purely
subjective."

Meaning from then on, everything was just so good that what you liked and
didn't like was purely a matter of taste.

I tend to agree.
