Can someone please point me to the "Strong Audities opposition"? As far as I
can tell, as a group we have a hard time agreeing on anything. :)

I think there have been a few people coming out dropping negative comments
about each of those bands, but I've seen at least an equal number in
support. Plus a lot of people are conditioned only to post when they have a
negative thing to say...and others only when kudos are at hand.

My jury is still out on the White Stripes (haven't heard the new one yet).
Like the music more than the press fawning at this point, but just chuckle
when I read reviews that state that Jack White is the best guitarist _and_
singer in rock and roll at the moment. Haven't heard the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs
either but I can smell the machinery gearing up for the bombast.

Strokes? Average band, average album, above-average hype. Vines - great
record that apparently shows more versatility than their live shows. Hives -
gotta love em to death! D4...now there's a band that rocks!

(BTW...must I put IMO or IMHO on this? I don't use a ghostwriter, you know.)

I like the nu-garage movement or _anything_ that means less
dance-formation-pop on the airwaves. If I start saying that the Stooges or
Velvet Underground were better I'll sound like my Dad (although he was more
of a Glenn Miller fan). I'm finding more pleasure these days in bands like
The Gentlemen and The Diamond Dogs, but D4 is my favorite of the above pack
at the moment.

And a lot of bands don't compromise their sound to find success. Although I
admire the ethics, I have to take into consideration that their music might
suck to begin with. :)

cheers and rock on
b
