Hells bells, isn't this how covering began?

As soon as King Oliver or Louis Armstrong wrote & recorded a 
hot song, that goldurned Paul Whitman would run right into the 
studio and turn out the watered down white-folks version. ;>

Twas never about the tribute, but the money!
