- but MUCH more importantly, if p pop were big, maybe some of the better
current p pop cult artists would actually make some money, enough to stay in
the business, quit the day jobs, stay together, make better work more often,
grow and evolve, afford more time in better studios with a higher level of
production, engineering, talent - now wouldn't THAT be great?
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Here, here! I went to see Don Dixon play (with openers Mitch Easter's new
band (The Feindish Minstrels)) last night, and Don was so on! He and
guitarist Jamie Hoover (of the Spongetones) knocked me back with thier
energy. But in the back of my mind I was thinking of last year when he was
sick and in a bad way financially.

As another example, I asked Mitch when his new album would be out. He said
it was a little difficult to get together the funds. That really burned my
buscuits - to think that this may be the only time I may hear some of the
amazing tunes he fired off last night.

Its funny - anyone who knows me knows that others opinions of what I do has
little to no permanant effect on me. So I am sure that my desire to see
power pop explode is not because I want to be with the in crowd. I am still
going my own way. I havn't put away my Brendan Benson CD yet.

No, I think it is the fact that music brings me so much joy, and power pop
brings out a specific suite of emotions, most of them uplifting. I love to
connect to that person that feels the same way. Last night I saw people
from kids to 40 somethings that connected over power pop.

So yeah - whats wrong with power pop being popular. If for no other reason
than artists of the calibre of the folks we discuss here deserve to at least
make a good living off thier hard work.

Don't say a word / Go straight to the gym / You gotta stand in line / If you
wanna dance with him
"Most of the Girls LTD" Don Dixon
