File this in the "Be Careful What You Wish For" folder. Audities
seems to have this same old "When will power pop make a pop-culture
comeback?" discussion every few months, and every time it does I think to
myself that if the comeback ever did come to pass it would wind up producing
a lot of brickbats rather than hosannas from Auditeers. >>>

So you are content that power pop is not popular, because it would upset
your world as a power pop fan. I can't get behind that at all - I would
love to see power pop become popular for two main reasons:
- the self centered wish to have my own tastes justified at a more
widespread level, although at my age i really don't care that much what
others think. still, it would be nice.
- but MUCH more importantly, if p pop were big, maybe some of the better
current p pop cult artists would actually make some money, enough to stay in
the business, quit the day jobs, stay together, make better work more often,
grow and evolve, afford more time in better studios with a higher level of
production, engineering, talent - now wouldn't THAT be great? that would be
cool, whether they make money because they sell more records, or because
popular new young bands record their songs or point fans to the old cult
bands, whatever...

to those who would blast bands who went major league in the ideal world
where p pop became popular (note i said major league not major label), i'd
say that smacks of elitism to me. i couldn't be happier if some of our
current faves were actually on the radio, selling lots of product, getting
some fame and fortune, etc..

but hey, it's a nice dream, huh? while we're at it, i also wish for world
peace, six pack abs and perfect pitch...
