Don't know if any of you caught Todd Rundgren on Letterman last
night, but
it was kind of tough to watch. He sang Hello, It's Me and came off to
me as
a Las Vegas lounge act. Been a fan since 1972, but I've never seen
him like
this. It seems as though Father Time is starting to catch up with the
vocal
chords, too.
My thoughts exactly. It was tough to watch. It was a mess (IMO).
Plus, to add to the mess it had to be some of the worst camera work
I've ever seen on Letterman. Maybe in part because Todd ventured near
the crowd and off camera for a bit. It seemed like more chaotic
shots of Paul and the band then Todd (even by usual standards). It
was like MTV camera cuts for televising a bowling league (just felt
weird). Somehow, reminds me of Pauline Kael's review of Costner's
direction for "Dancing with Wolves"...she dubbed it "Plays with
Camera".
Done rambling...Steve
