The main reason I got rid of my old clock radio and now use a "buzzer-only"
alarm is that whatever song was playing when the alarm went off was the tune
that lodged in my head for the first few hours of the day. Good, bad,
mediocre, familiar, unknown --it didn't matter; whatever the song was, it
was with me for a while.

I also note that even without a wake-up song from the outside, my brain will
often supply one anyway, especially if I am dreaming at the time and often
to the detriment of my dream memory. I'll wake up struggling to retain
elements of the dream, but here comes a song, stepping all over it; it's
almost like it is "overwriting the files" and "deleting" the dream. Hate
that.

For the last few days now, I've been tormenting a co-worker by humming a
cheesy 80s pop hit early in the day, forcing her to live with it in her own
head. I've used Huey Lewis' "Stuck With You," Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" and
Peter Cetera's "I am a man who will fight for your honor" thing.
