awl:

this morning it was on's "c'mon collapse," a
reflection of both what i wished i was doing instead
of rising to face the day, and the last song i heard
in my car last night coming home.

in the coffeehaus i worked at in college, it was
considered a great success if you could plant your
infectious song in the head of a coworker, preferably
when they were taking over your shift, not unlike the
mark twain short story about the boy who had to pass
along the little train ditty "punch brothers, punch
with care! punch in the presence of the pass-en-jare!"
in order to rid himself of it... the song that always
worked best was "she's a grand old flag," which, as
all who worked at Kopi Cafe Champaign circa 1990-1993
will attest, is also the best antidote to any other
song that might get stuck in yer noggin (barring the
ever potent "Centerfold.")
