My all-time favorite rainyday record is John Coltrane's of "My Favorite
Things", especially the title track. (And the rainier, the better.)

Jocelyn mentioned Red House Painters. One of my favorite bands. But if
a pure power pop fan were to listen to too much RHP on a cold rainy day,
it would be such a shock to their system that you might find them hanging
from a rope. Not for the weak of stomach.

Add to the rainyday box The Innocence Mission with Karen Peris' angelic
vocals and husband Don's jangly guitar fills. Their aptly-named
"Umbrella" is a brilliant rainyday record. The lead track, "And Hiding
Away", even mentions the cloudy, tearing sky.

Anything by Low is perfect for a soft summer rain.

And when it's stormy, I like these people:
http://www.mp3.com/rainydayassembly. (Especially "This Again" and "If I
Say This".) One of the best new bands I've heard in a long time. The
name says it all. And what a voice!!!
