The sappiness --or, more kindly, the open sentiment-- of "The Child In You"
was put to good use a few years ago, when I made a video for my sister's
40th birthday that incorporated old home movies and stills from her
childhood and segued into similar images from the early lives of her own
daughters. I used "Child" as the soundtrack.

When I premiered the video at her party, there wasn't a dry eye in the
house. Several party attendees asked me about the music, and I was ready
with several copies of MAVERICKS I had rescued from bargain bins around
time. I think I gave out five of them.

As someone who didn't discover the dB's until after they'd broken up, I
consider MAVERICKS part of their canon, and I file it that way in my
collection.

Drew,
who met both Stephen Stills and Jackie DeShannon at my bookstore this week.
(No, they weren't together.)
