I have been re-listening to a lot of older music these days, and one of the
albums that I rediscovered was Alice Cooper's early 80s album "Special
Forces."

At the time I bought this as a cut-out, I knew the classic Cooper stuff from
the 70s, but hadn't ever really bought any of the group's albums. I saw
that "Special Forces" had a cover of "7 and 7 is" and bought it for a laugh
if nothing else.

Not only was the cover nicely done (not Love of course, but what is), but I
found myself really liking the rest of the album as well. There was a solid
guitar sound, interesting lyrics and a good all-around glam atmosphere. It
hit my sweet spot. i bought several other Alice albums of the time "Flush
the Fashion" and "Zipper Catches Skin" and discovered that I like the album,
not the current group.

I latered discovered that this was one of Furnier's alcoholic periods and is
considered to be a lowpoint of his career, but I really like this one album.

Anyway, to the point under discussion, I have been re-listening to older
music from my collection, and damned if I didn't also think, while listening
to this one, "there are a lot of power-pop bands that could have fun with
these songs." Then a week or so later, it pops up here on audities.

i'd recommend listening to this one, even if you've written off any later
period Alice Cooper. All Music gives it one star, but in that confusing way
that AllMusic has, actually has a positive review
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=4:39:57|PM&sql=Ayt8uak1k5m3v
despite the star rating.

NP: Alice Cooper "Special Forces," of course
