The top music I've listened to in 2003:

The Punkles - "Beat The Punkles!" and "Punk!" Sheer fun. Punk Beatles
cover tunes.
Marc Bacino - "The Million Dollar Milkshake" This guy can craft a classic
tune effortlessly (it seems!). More great pop in the vein of his debut.
The Orchestra - "No Rewind" This is a flat-out masterpiece. I avoided it
for too long because of my distaste for ELO Part Two (the recording entity -
never saw them live). Great tunes (fully realized) and some unique
surprises. "Twist and Shout" must be heard to be believed. I can't
recommend it highly enough.
Jeremy - "Pop Dreams" This release veers more towards the cleanly-picked
ballads he crafts so well. The recording is thick and lush - it recalls
"Open Your Heart" to my ears.
JTG Implosion - "All of the People Some of the Time" A rollicking fun ride
from the guy who stole Brian May's guitar. :-) Fans of Joe's previous
band, Star Collector, will not be disappointed.
The Jeevas - "1,2,3,4," Fresh from his Kula Shaker gig, Crispian Mills
sheds the mystic, psychedelic bent of that band for some straight-ahead
power pop. Good stuff.

Slight disappointments:

Everclear - "Slow Motion Daydream" I *want* to like this one more than I
really do. "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom" may be a catchy retread, but it is
still a retread. The solid ballad, "Chrysanthemum" makes it worth having,
but I wanted more.

The Drowners - "Muted to a Whisper" I was baited by the fantastic cover of
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the Harrison tribute. I was looking for
"Muted" to include even better stuff. Unfortunately, it was the only
standout track on the disc. Many tracks weren't even power pop. Too bad.

As for the Beatles DVD - Are there any complete songs on it? I'm always
frustrated by voice-overs covering up parts of rare video events. I'd also
like to hear some comments on the Threetles bonus disc. Best Buy has the
set for around $47 this week.

Mike
