Edwin Starr's first four albums are amongst my favorite Motown records. 
He had made soul songs with a rock sensibility and some great driving 
rhythms - sort of in the Wilson Pickett and James Brown records of the 
same era.

If you don't own them, I recommend picking up 25 Miles and/or War and 
Peace. The latter features War as well as my fave ES cut "Adios 
Senorita", which I threw on my last SOTT disc and can listen to over and 
over again.
