It's been a while since I've played the Starclub album but I too can
remember not liking much about it other than the single ("Hard To Get"). But
I'll have to heartily disagree with him on including Connell's "Fun and
Games" on that list. If John can't fine anything else on there to like
besides "Hey Wow", I have to seriously question his hearing :-). The very
track he likes is bookended by two other good tracks ("Motel", "Ten Pins
(down)". Other good tracks are the title cut (the one that got me into the
Connells when I heard it on a CMJ sampler), and I personally think you
aren't likely to find a prettier closing track than "Lay Me Down", although
if you countered with The Hang-Ups' "Greyhound Bus" it would be a photo
finish.
Including the Holsapple/Stamey album in the list is odd since he admits the
album is "not bad", and the first track "Angels" is just as good as
"Geometry", or nearly so. And it's followed by another cool track "I Know
You Will". I'm sure there are more in there that I'm just not remembering at
the moment.
