Dave listed the following for recent CD's he is into..
Adam Marsland - 232 Days on the Road - now, Adam's material is also
very
lyrically evocative, but the music is as frenetic and kinetic as the
Stew
tunes are soulful and moody. very very entertaining. never thought i
could
be so kicked in the ass by a guy with just a voice and an acoustic
guitar.
in some ways, i like this more than a lot of the pre-Ludlow Cockeyed
Ghost
albums - don't get me wrong, I do indeed dig the CG stuff - but there
is
something immediate and endearing about the solo acoustic approach,
(snip)

Which is a nice time to remind people to catch Adam when he comes to
your town (as his tour is taking off). I'll be hosting an invite
house party for friends introducing most of them to Adam's music in
June. I am really looking forward to it and agree with you 100%
about the immediacy of his shows.

Davd continued...
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions - got this from the BMG rekkid club the
other
day. what a friggin fantastic elpee. not many who can touch Stevie at
what he does, or did, rather. as much as i like a lot of the new pop
stuff
i hear these days, i wish more of it had the emotional and musical
depth of
this ol seventies stuff.

Dave, I did the same thing with BMG! Only I went for 4 discs by
Stevie (INNERVISIONS, MUSIC OF MY MIND, TALKING BOOK, FULFILLINGNESS
FIRST FINALE). I'm with you on this being great and essential stuff.
If I had to pick I might pick FFF as my fav but it's really
interchangeable for me with INNERVISIONS (I just don't like the lead
track on Innervisions) & TB. It's "weird" how he was at such a peak
and followed with SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE. Then churned out SECRET
LIFE OF PLANTS, which I have not heard but understand it is dreadful
(true ?). He never seemed to regain what he once had (if I'm mistaken
about that someone please let me know).

Dave went on..
Jayhawks -Tomorrow the Green Grass - what a great band!

Dave, not sure what else to tell you but their new disc is written up
in Entertainment weekly. The new disc got a B+ but they seemed to be
recommending SMILE.

best, Steve D

NP in rotation when I'm in my car.
Van Duren, Colin Blundstone, Mark Johnson, David Grahme, Scott
McCarl, Willie Wisely.
