I'm not sure who it was here who recommended the 2-cd Status Quo 60's
collection-The Technicolor Dreams of the Status Quo, but MANY thanks. I had
to get this from the U.K., but it was worth every penny. While I knew
"Pictures of Matchstick Men" like many of us, their other 60's material is
very, very high quality in my book, almost up there with the Honeybus as a
recent "discovery."
I found it odd that even their producer says in the liners that they didn't
sing well and could barely play. I know even the band dimiss their 60's
material...the singing and harmonies are very nice and the playing is just
fine for psych/pop of this period. Worth checking out. I got mine from Rob
Day Imports.
Another great find-The Witch Hazel Sound-"This World, Then the Fireworks".
Although a 2001 release, I saw a recommendation for this on the "Ready,
Steady, Go" website, and several Auditeers vouched for it. This is
well-crafted neo-soft pop with interesting production and memorable
melodies. I keep finding new things with each listen.
Brian, who can't wait to get the first Sugarplastic single....:)
