Bill beat me to Fleetwood Mac and King Crimson. I'll add another Audities favorite, Pere Ubu, to that list. Bill mentioned some Motown bands, with The Temptations probably being the best example (they also succeeded with probably more writer/production teams than any other Motown band). In a shorter span than 10 years, during their peak of productivity, Fairport Convention had a lot of overturn, no? The thing that's remarkable about Fleetwood Mac (and The Temptations, to an extent, if you include their producers), is that they succeeded with complete changes in their creative leads. I mean, King Crimson has always been Fripp and whatever technically brilliant musicians can stand his supposedly difficult personality.

Then you've got Genesis, who managed to bore me to tears with a dozen variations on their lineup.
