My uncle Chuck used to collect Hit Parader and Song Hits magazine, along
with the usual Fender/Gibson ads they would have ads for brands like
Domino, Harmony and Eko (who is still making guitars overseas -
http://www.ekoguitars.com/ or http://www.myrareguitars.com/ ).
It seems like a real good time now if you wanted a reproduction of a
classic 50's and 60's guitar, or something new-retro like one of those
DiPinto guitars Los Straightjackets use.
