Without getting into specific political debate (like religion, best
discussed elsewhere), everyone should have the right to express their
opinion and/or make an ass out of themselves in the process. Celebrities
have the spotlight but not all are well-informed. I doubt anyone is using
them as a SOURCE of information, but they certainly can draw attention to
whatever they say. On the other hand, all elected officials work for the
people, not the other way around. Not all of them seem to remember that.

The problem is that the media likes to stir up the pot - everything is black
or white. Uhh....no. There's a big difference between protesting the concept
of war and not supporting men and women who have suited up in the armed
forces...these are not opposite forces. It's perfectly feasible that someone
could support the men and women in uniform _and_ have serious reservations
about what we're doing right now.

I would have been more taken back by Michael Moore's speech at the Oscars,
but he just repeated work for word what he said at the Independent Film
Awards earlier in the weekend. Personally I'd rather see him make a movie
about the issue than cause an expected ruckus. I was much more on alert when
Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere (TIBET ALERT! TIBET ALERT!) approached the
mic, but they were benign by comparison.

cheers

PS - I'd like to jump into the over-reactive mob scene too. Where can I burn
Rush Limbaugh albums?
