1. The list Greg is talking about is an e-mail list that I send out to
about 100 or so folks around Chicago. I'm currently having issues with
Hotmail regarding my address book (I can't add or delete names from it), but
I'm always up for sending out my show list to more folks. Contact me
off-list.
2. I'm pretty much with Greg on the local bands playing -- but for one
night. On April 30, two cool acts are playing. Alan Keller is a
singer-songwriter in the vein of...I dunno...Matthew Sweet/Tommy Keene, but
melded with more observational British pop songwriters of the '60s like Ray
Davies. (Best I can do this early in morning). Duvall is Josh Caterer of
The Smoking Popes carrying on that band's melodic traditon -- Duvall is much
more power poppy. Josh left the Popes when he became born again (oddly
enough), and Duvall has a light Christian rock thing going. This is the
same night that The Elms are playing -- Duvall and The Elms alone make this,
IMO, one of the best nights on the bill.

Demon Dogs, for those who don't know, is a hot dog stand at the foot of the
Fullerton el Station that is owned by a buddy of Chicago (I think he now
manages them) -- the small shack is a shrine to the band. (Though they've
never gotten around to naming the various dogs and such after songs -- I'd
like a "25 or 6 to 4" double dog with a "Questions 67 and 68" shake and the
"Wishing You Were Here" fries.) The city is remodeling the station and
Demon Dogs may have to go. On one hand, the owner is kind of a dick -- for
years he weaseled out of paying city taxes and other monkeyshines, which is
why the city seems to have no problem getting rid of the place. On the
other hand, there are a lot of good stories about the place, it is somewhat
of an attraction, and there are more than a few students at DePaul
University (right nearby) that have begged for a free dog or something when
low on cash.
There is a Krispy Kreme in the Loop now, if that's any consolation.
