Can't judge the legitimacy of your second question, so I'll just cover Gary.
GREAT songwriter, good vocalist, but both those releases are a bit more on
the singer-songwriter side (read: mellower) than the Flashcubes stuff. I
wouldn't call either one power-pop.
I've always thought that if an established artist recorded Gary's songs,
hits would grow on trees.
