My Cheap Trick scorecard --
The first three studio LPs are classics. And the full Budokan concert is
well worth it.
In my opinion, STANDING ON THE EDGE, THE DOCTOR, BUSTED and WOKE UP WITH A
MONSTER probably could be culled down to a 40 minute CD-R of worthwhile
songs. All our poor discs.
LAP OF LUXURY is half and half.
ALL SHOOK UP -- feels a bit incomplete, thanks to jokey tracks like "Who
D'King" and "High Priest of Rhythmic Noise". Still, it's fun. It would
really benefit from remastering.
NEXT POSITION PLEASE is a good not great effort -- some of the tracks are
underwritten, but it's highs are VERY high.
DREAM POLICE -- this album has aged well. It suffered in comparison to what
came before it, but it shows off both the pop and rock sides of the band
quite well.
The second eponymous album is one of their strongest -- it shares so much in
common with the debut, in terms of the sinister edge the band seemed to have
lost.
ONE ON ONE is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's their best album
beyond the consensus classics. Roy Thomas Baker really encouraged them to
go over the top, and I think it works well. The second side is loaded with
parody/pastiche of many styles. Zander's vocals shred more than ever.
Of the other live albums, take MUSIC FOR HANGOVERS over SILVER.
