That makes sense. The Continental Drifters were the house band and Peter
the organizer of a Sandy Denny tribute show I attended at St. Ann's
Church in Brooklyn in 1998. Here is the lineup:

Katell Keineg - Come All Ye (a capella), Who Knows Where the Time Goes
Vicki Peterson - Listen Listen
Sloan Wainwright - Next Time Around
Deni Bonet - One-Way Donkey Ride
Michael Steele - Banks of the Nile, North Star Grassman and the Raven
Darius Rucker ("Hootie") - Blackwaterside
Susan McKeown - Tam Lin (amazing!), Solo
Mike Mills (R.E.M.) - It Suits Me Well (nice job Mikey!)
Dana Kletter - Autopsy, Stranger to Himself
Don Dixon - Gold Dust
Susie Cowsill - At the End of the Day, I'm a Dreamer
John Crooke - John the Gun
Amanda Thorpe - A Sailor's Life
Marti Jones - Take Me Away
Robyn Hitchcock - Mattie Groves (great!)
Peace in the End - Marti Jones / Don Dixon

Everybody came out at the end for 2-3 encores, which included Meet on the
Ledge and at least one other from Holiday.

Does anybody have a recording of this show? It's on my wish list.

By the way, Holiday is my favorite FC record. I always think of it as
Britain's answer to Surrealistic Pillow. (With that and R.E.M.'s mythic
Fables under his belt, Joe Boyd can produce me anytime!) And I daresay
Tale in Hard Time qualifies as a pop track, with a jangly guitar and
strong harmonies. I like Unhalfbricking but not as much as Holiday. And
Liege & Lief is up there with Holiday for me -- darker, artier, less
easily digested but wonderful nevertheless. Tam Lin is just intense, and
Mattie Groves is classic. Take away poor Sandy, and I'm not interested.
Her solos? OK. Iain Matthew's solos? Not interested. Whole clearly
greater than sum of parts.

Gary
