<<Second, around the same time this show was recorded, I remember going to a
TV
taping the Beach Boys did. I can't remember what they played, but Brian was
there and it was said they were going to air it on TV. Does anyone know if
there was an American TV special around the 1980? At the time, I wasn't a
fan of the Beach Boys. I just went because my friend knew Audrey Wilson and
she invited us to the taping. Now I would love to find a copy of this
performance. >>
I was in the studio all weekend (new album is coming out FANTASTIC...just had
to say that) and didn't see this 'til now.
I'm thinking this taping may have been for a TV pilot called "Goin' Platinum"
which aired in mid-1980. The show was a documentary of the making of the
KEEPIN' THE SUMMER ALIVE album, and it was interspersed with live
(semi-lip-synced) footage of the band playing songs from the new album before
a live audience. I remember watching it at the time and wondering where
they'd done it, since it clearly wasn't a regular live show, but I'd never
seen any reference in Beach Boys lore to where or when this particular taping
took place, and the special itself is now something of a collector's item.
I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that's the taping you were at. If memory
serves, three of the songs played were "Keepin' The Summer Alive," "Goin' On"
and "Oh Darling," and Brian was definitely there and in front (but Dennis
wasn't).
